Mountain Biking

Eugene and I went biking today.  We just planned to ride around on pavement, but ended up passing by a park and then going on some trails.  It was really fun, and reminded me a lot of junior high and high school (I used to mountain bike a lot).  If you look close, you can see the mud flecked all over us.  By the way, the matching clothing was in no way intentional, but ended up making us look like we were on a team or something.

iPhone

While I'll probably never be able to afford an iPhone, I'm pretty excited about it.  Apple just put up some new video ads on their website about it showing off the interface.  There are a lot of PDA phones out there that ostensibly have the same functions, but Apple goes the extra mile with usability and design, which is what makes them Apple.  Even though I can't get one (until they come way down in price and my contract with Sprint expires), I like that it's pushing the limits of current phone/PDA design and challenging the rest of the industry to be innovative.

These pictures make me really happy.  It's Bambi and Thumper in real life!

slowing down

As some of you know, I had a little neck problem (my symptoms aren't exactly as described here, but close) about a week and a half ago, and although it was a difficult experience, I think it was good for me to slow down, rest, and relax.  Because I have to keep taking muscle-relaxing medication at night (no more Valium thankfully), I've still been getting a lot more sleep than normal because it knocks me out for a good 8 hours.  The result is that I'm now much more energetic and joyful in the things I do, which is cool.  So even though I have a lot to catch up on from sleeping 18 hours a day for a week, I can be happy doing it.

All of this got me to thinking: maybe slowing down in other ways is good, too.  So to experiment, I decided that when I drove to work this morning, I would obey the speed limit the entire way (I'm a pretty impatient driver, so this was really hard to do).  It took about 5 minutes longer than usual, and I know the traffic light patterns well enough to know that I hit about 3 more red lights than I normally do, but in spite of all that, it still seemed like it was somehow a positive experience.  No guarantees that I'll never speed again, though :)

Anyways, I can see the truth in Jesus' words now: "I will give you rest".

P.S. - Props to Eugene Chang and Susan Ahn for taking me to the ER and taking care of me!
